Building Sustainable Peace Through Preventive Diplomacy
Through the annual Fellowship Programme and the Asia-Pacific initiative, UNITAR catalysed cross-regional trust-building and deepened participants’ capacities to operationalize preventive diplomacy frameworks in complex environments. UNITAR programmes equipped 74 peace actors, diplomats, civil society representatives and UN personnel from diverse regions with essential competencies in negotiation, mediation and conflict analysis.

Building Inclusive Capacities for Peace, Security, and Resilience
UNITAR peacekeeping training programme reached 7,833 uniformed personnel from 23 Troop and Police Contributing Countries, with a strong emphasis on gender parity, and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse. Twenty per cent of participants were women. National capacities were further reinforced through a robust Training of Trainers model to ensure long-term sustainability.

Broadened Perspectives on Women’s Leadership and Mediation
Advancing Peace Through Digital and Higher Education
The Institute scaled inclusive learning through digital platforms and academic partnerships, reaching over 7,000 global learners, including 353 UN Volunteers. The Online Master’s Degree Programmes supported SDGs 4, 16, and 17 while advancing the UN 2.0 vision. The Open Online Courses platform offered free learning opportunities on peace, conflict and sustainable development.

Promoting Peace Through Hiroshima’s Legacy
In 2024, UNITAR advanced nuclear disarmament efforts through its Hiroshima-based training programme, convening 18 diplomats from 13 countries. The programme reinforced the urgent need for global nuclear risk reduction. UNITAR also supported the Youth Leader Conference in Hiroshima, where 49 young leaders from 37 countries drafted a “DeclarACTION” with commitments on community engagement, youth participation and academic collaboration, positioning youth as catalysts for a nuclear-free future.
